Loro Parque hosted the VII International Parrot Convention

The 7th edition of the International Parrot Convention that took place between the 20th and the 25th of September 2010 at Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife, was the fifth congress organized by Loro Parque since 1986. This parrot convention is organized every four years by Loro Parque Foundation to provide experts and bird enthusiasts an opportunity to learn more about parrots and as a way to gather and share information. The event included lectures and workshops given by parrot experts about parrots’ biology, diet, management and other subjects of interest.

This convention is promoted and supported by Mr. Wolfgang Kiessling, who is the owner of Loro Parque and a parrots’ enthusiast that has studied these birds for decades and founded in Tenerife Island a research and protection centre that has become a point of reference for the study and protection of parrots worldwide.

Loro Parque started as a zoo where parrots and other animals where exhibited and performed shows for the visitors. Soon, the zoo expanded to include sharks and other sea animals that vary from dolphins to penguins that live in specially designed areas that emulate their natural habitats. Besides, the park has gorillas, orangutans, and monkeys apart form other exotic animals.
