The Tenerife Tourism Corporation has presented last Thursday in Paris the direct flight that will connect the island to one of the main European capitals. The airline in charge of providing this service will be Air Europa.
A delegation form Tenerife travelled to Paris to take part in the launching of the new connection that also served to present the tourist offer of the island to the media and French tour operators and travel agents.
The vice president of the insular council and Councillor of Tourism, José Manuel Bermúdez said that, “this new flight connection fosters our opportunities to increase our participation in this market reinforcing the flight connection from Paris to Tenerife that Iberia Airlines is providing nowadays and the connection from Marseille to Tenerife that Air Europe offers”. Bermúdez said that now the challenge is to make these flights have full occupancy to strengthen Tenerife’s presence in France.
Air Europe will connect Paris to Tenerife South with regular flights all over the year on Thursdays and Sundays. A Boeing 737-800 which has a capacity for 190 passengers will allow the increase in the number of French tourists that visit the island. In 2009 they represented the 2% of the overall number.
The new route will be advertised through promotional spots in every Air Europe flight for three months and also in their in-flight magazine. Tenerife Island’s tourist offer will be also advertised on the Globalia Group websites. In France, a series of advertising spots will be presented in radios, the press, travel agencies and travel magazines. The Tenerife Tourism Corporation will be sponsoring trips to the island for tour operators, travel agents and French media as a complementary strategy for the tourist promotion of the island.
The launching ceremony included several activities like a workshop with the presence of 18 representatives of the tourist industry from Tenerife including hotels and travel agencies. The participants to this event also had the chance to participate in an appetizers demonstration conducted by the chef of the Jardín Tropical Hotel in Tenerife, Alvaro Garcés. The activities were complemented by a wine tasting organized by the wineries Cumbres de Abona, Domínguez and Viñátigo and a luncheon to present Canary products.
